HD-DVD is dead, but will downloads kill Blu-Ray?

Toshiba has announced that it will no longer be manufacturing HD-DVD equipment, so this leaves Sony’s Blu-Ray format as the victor in the optical disk war. Was this really a relevant war though, or are digital downloads now set to kill Blu-Ray?
With Apple last month adding movie rentals to its iTunes software and providing a free update to its Apple TV users. This could mark the mark the end already for Blu-Ray.
There are the obvious questions of UK broadband speeds and peoples need to have ‘physical’ media, but it will be interesting to watch how quickly downloads take off when iTunes Rentals are released in the UK.
